One of my earliest memories was playing with my cousin’s makeup. I would hide in the bathroom and paint my face and put on layers of mascara and inevitably get in a lot of trouble. As a small child, I can remember being in tow when all of the females would make the visit to the Merrill Norman salon. I would watch in envy while their faces where painted in some hot pink mask. I have no idea what that pink stuff did, but I wanted my face covered in it.

As I progressed to a teenager, with a heavy hand on the eye shadow, my cousin took me to the department store for my first makeover. I have been hooked ever since! I literally cannot pass a makeup counter without trying or buying something. My two biggest obsessions are the longest lasting lipstick and the mascara which will give me long thick lashes. Skin care and anti-frizz hair products follow closely after.

I am a sucker for fancy packaging and the newest, best and so-called promised product that will turn me into one of the glamorous beauties in the latest fashion magazine. Unfortunately for me, most products don’t live up to the hype promised by the advertisement.

Therefore, I’ve decided, along with the help of some of my not so obsessive friends and family to post products that we tried so you can decide if you want to spend your money!

Simply Straight™ Ceramic Straightening Brush

I broke down and purchased the Simply Straight Hair Brush because my local CVS had them and I had a $10 off purchase coupon.  The website promotes it as a wonderful ceramic brush that straightens your hair easily without damaging or burning it. Perfect for hair of all types, this brush features ceramic-wrapped bristles that warm up quickly.

I washed my hair and let it air-dry so the natural curl and frizz where at its highest.  I ran the brush through my hair as instructed with the bristles facing out. The device is a little heavier than a curling iron. I have to admit it worked and in less than 10 minutes I had straight, frizz-free hair!

So for less than $30 I have another great styling tool that worked for me.  You can get them online or at a variety of chain or discount stores.

tarteist™ lash paint mascara

Love, Love, Love Tarte's new Lash Paint Mascara.  Website promotes it increases lashes by 2700% - not sure about that - but love the way it thickens and lengthens my lashes without lumps and clumps.

This is my new FAVORITE!  Comes in jet black for $23 at Tarte website or Ulta.

Nuance Salma Hayek Long Lasting Eyeliner Pencil, Volcanic Black

Also on my new favorites list is Nuance Salma Hayek Long Lasting Eyeliner Pencil, Volcanic Black.  A deal for under $10 at CVS.  Felt tip and applicator are easy to use and glide over eyelid.  This one is a keeper!

The website promotes it as:  Calming Chamomile has a fresh effect on skin with its moisturizing properties. The thin tip allows for precise application of long-lasting color that perfectly defines eyes throughout the day. Safe for even the most sensitive eyes.

Stila - Color Balm Lipstick

I am loving my new Stila - Color Balm Lipstick

It is creamy, feels great on my lips and lasts longer than the average lip balm.  The price is $22 and comes in 19 different shades, depending on where you purchase it. This one is a winner.

Sephora website promotes it as:  A creamy lip color with the full pigment-load of a lipstick, the nourishing properties of a balm, and the shine of a gloss. Featuring a luxe, satin finish, Color Balm lipstick offers excellent color payoff, subtle shine, and phyto-derived emollient properties that deliver hydrated and healthy lips. Naturally cooling peppermint oil provides a fresh and rejuvenating sensation, while exclusive sunflower-based polyglycerides smooth lip contours and add volume and definition to lips. A handy mirror on the top of the cap makes on-the-go application a snap. Formulated WITHOUT:  Parabens, Sulfates or Phthalates.
